Barren Island Volcano?
Does anyone know anything about Volcano Island is barren? I do not link to Wikipedia, because I need simple information. Do not think you could give me some info: O) Im talking Voclano who broke into the Andaman islands. thanx.
Barren Island, Andaman Islands, India Location: 12.29 N, 93.88 E, Altitude: 1161 feet (305 m) Last Updated: June 02, 2005 An eruption in 1991, the column rises on Barren Island, the only active volcano along the history of the volcanic arc connecting Sumatra and Myanmar (Burma). 3 km across the island contains a 1.6-km crater partially filled by a cinder cone that has been the source of eruptions since the first was recorded in 1787. Lava flows reached the coast for several recent eruptions. Located ~ 135 km north of Port Blair (South Andaman), Barren Island contains 1.6 kilometers wide open Somma W with a central pyroclastic cone that was the source of reported historical eruption in 1787, 1789, 1795, 1803, 1852 and possibly 1991. The eruption of 1803 has produced lava flows that reached the coast. In 1991, the eruption began in late April with emission of hot gas and ash deposit and completed in late October (Bulletin v. 16, nos. 5, 8, 10, 12 and v. 17, nos. 1 and 5). Andesite lava basalt flows covered an area of approximately 1,600 m2 at a depth of 5-6 meters and reached the northwest coast. The initial activity was a vent on the NE flank central cone above, but has been expanded to include the main crater. Greenhouse gas and lava flows were observed near the northwest coast in April 1993 there were at least five moderate-sized explosive eruptions on Barren Island since 1787. The eruption 1991 lasted six months and caused some damage. The most recent eruption began in 1994. A new eruption at Barren Island was discovered by the Indian Navy, December 20, 1994. A team of scientists from the geological Zoo and India have reached the island in early January 24, and an aerial survey of the volcano was made on 31. February 22th, the Strombolian eruption was still "early in progression. The vegetation in the path of the advancing lava flow has been destroyed. During January and February, a gas column thickness composed pale brown, the black particles of ash and steam White Rose ~ 200 m from the crater area, at intervals of 30 seconds, accompanied by continuous noise and intermittently "cracking" sounds.
