How do I determine the sample size required for 95% of the exact probability of a very rare event?
I an event that occurs and it is very rare. They say that thusfar sample is 9 positive than 90,000 tests. How do I determine how many tests have a 95% on the estimated probability (which appears at present to 1 in 10,000 or 0.01%)? Suppose that this event is totally random. The only question that remains is that the probability TRUE.
No such issue is a misunderstanding of confidence intervals. The confidence interval is actually applied to an error * *, not the average *. * In other words, you may be able to say: "With a confidence of 95%, the actual probability is between 0.009% and 0.011% (an error of ± 10%). But you can never say: "I am safe 95% probability that is * exactly * 0.01%. "
